On 5 September 2019, Professor Christine Goh delivered her annual Director’s Address at the NIE Lecture Theatre 1, with simulcasts at Lecture Theatre 2 and 12. The address was attended by over 500 NIE faculty and staff.
In her address, Professor Christine Goh shared the accomplishments of NIE faculty and staff over the past year and outlined key strategic foci for the new academic year. NIE would continue to focus on its Strategic Vision 2022 (NIE 2022) to be “A Future-Ready National Institute of Education,” with the three strategic areas of “Programmes and Research,” “Partnerships and Networks,” and “People and Institutional Capacity”. | Read More |
She elaborated on how NIE was primed to lead the future of education and highlighted the “4-Life” framework as a key tenet of NIE 2022. Initiatives were underway to review and enhance assessment, assessment literacy, and Leaders in Education Programme (LEP), among others.
On the research and partnership front, NIE was collaborating with NTU on the development of NTU 2025, in focus areas such as Science of Learning. NIE was also closely partnering the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Academy of Singapore Teachers in the planning and implementation of SkillsFuture for Educators, a five-year professional development framework for teachers centred on key MOE priority areas.
Another noteworthy initiative was the Multi-Centric Education, Research, and Industry STEM Centre (meriSTEM@NIE), a prime example of a ground-up initiative looking into multi- disciplinary research, education and industry impact in an area of strength.
Not forgetting the people who had faithfully contributed to NIE over the years, Professor Goh showed two videos, “Inspiring Learning, Transforming Teaching, Advancing Research” and “NIE – A Place to Learn, Work and Grow Together” produced by IN-Learning and SPAQ.
In her closing remarks, Professor Goh thanked all faculty and staff for their hard work and contributions to the success of NIE. She urged everyone to reflect on the key roles NIE would be playing in the education sector in the years to come, and how NIE could continue to make an impact in learning, teaching and research in Singapore and globally.
