The Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) Academic Group hosted the 10th Lau Teng Chuan Physical Education and Sports Science Symposium on 5 November 2021. The annual event was livestreamed for the first time in its decade-long run. The late Mr Lau Teng Chuan was a prominent figure in the development of sports in Singapore. He was also known to many in the education sector as the “father of PE”.
The theme for this year’s symposium was “Envisioning Physical Education, Sport Science and Management”. Mr Eric Chua, Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth, and Ministry of Social and Family Development, was the Guest-of-Honour at the event.
The programme featured two guest speakers, Mr Lim Teck Yin, Chief Executive Officer of Sport Singapore, and Professor Aaron Russell, School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences, Deakin University. Associate Professor Liu Woon Chia, Dean of Teacher Education, and Mr Lau Cheng Soon, son of the late Dr Lau Teng Chuan, were also present to give their addresses.
The event closed with 105 presentations from students in NIE’s PESS and the Sports Science & Management (SSM) programme, Deakin University, Korea National Sport University, and National Taiwan Normal University.
