The Association of Southeast Asian Teacher Education Network (AsTEN) was accredited as an entity associated with ASEAN in March 2021. As a member of AsTEN, the NIE can now work with other member institutions to access ASEAN resources for promoting education and research in line with the ASEAN 2025 vision of ‘Forging Ahead Together’. The accreditation had been obtained under the leadership of NIE Director, Professor Christine Goh, who was the AsTEN Chairperson then.

AsTEN is a network of premier teacher education institutions of the countries in ASEAN. Its goal is to address the issues and challenges relevant to teacher education programmes, practices and policies in the ASEAN region. At the same time, it serves as a vehicle for collaboration in both academic and research endeavours within and across member institutions that will ultimately benefit ASEAN and its people.
