The inaugural Singapore History Day competition was held on 14 September 2019 at NIE. Organised by the Humanities and Social Studies Education (HSSE) Academic Group and supported by MOE’s Curriculum Planning and Development Division (Humanities Branch) and Academy of Singapore Teachers (History Chapter), the national-level history competition saw participation from more than 220 students across 45 schools in Singapore.
This year’s participants were vying for top prizes in four contest categories: Documentary, Website, Exhibit and Research Paper. The judging panels comprised academics and history educators from NIE, National University of Singapore, MOE, as well as industry experts from the museums and the broadcasting industry.
Director NIE, Professor Christine Goh, opened the day’s programme with a welcome address. The event’s guest of honour, Professor Yaacob Ibrahim, then delivered the keynote speech to an audience made up of students, teachers, parents and invited guests.
