The English Language and Literature (ELL) Talks and Seminar Committee members and NIE Library launched the Writers @NIE series in January 2019. The primary aim of the series is to provide a platform for writers and readers to meet and interact. The series also seeks to make writers and their craft more accessible to readers. In addition, these interactions help to expose NIE students to other dimensions of study beyond their disciplines.

To date, eight local and international writers who have participated in our series include Mr Peh Shing Huei (author of Tall Order: The Goh Chok Tong Story), Professor Malachi Edwin Vethamani (poet and author of Life Happens and Complicated Lives), Mr Marc Nair (poet and author of Vital Possessions), Dato Dr Shanmugalingam (author of short story collection Marriage and Mutton Curry), Mr K. Kesavapany (Singapore’s former ambassador to Malaysia who spoke about his biography, From Estate to Embassy: Memories of an Ambassador), Ms Ann Ang (author of Bang My Car), UK-based science-fiction writer Ms Natasha Oliver (author of The Evolved Ones: Awakening), veteran journalist and children’s fiction writer Mr Alan John, and children’s book illustrator and author, Mr Quek Hong Shin (author and illustrator of The Amazing Sarong).

The Writers @NIE series has been well attended by students, faculty and staff. Look out for upcoming events @instagram.com/nielibrary, and join us for the next talk!
