Putting Passion
into Practice

Clinical psychologist and self-proclaimed book geek Dr Myra Graces Bacsal shares about the culmination of her passions, research work and teaching—Reading for Social and Emotional Learning (SEL). Here she explores what is transformative teaching practice, the significance and role of multicultural books for early childhood education, an overview of the SEL framework, how picture books are effective scaffolds to SEL teaching in classrooms, and the importance of transforming teacher cultural landscapes.

Discover how multicultural reading impacts both the teaching and learning of SEL skills, and how SEL skills can guide students’ behaviour and prepare them to live and work in a global environment.

Dr Myra Graces Bacsal is the Programme Leader of the Masters of Education in High Ability Studies and Gifted Education, and Assistant Professor from the Early Childhood & Special Needs Education Academic Group.
