Nurturing a Sense of Purpose in Our Youth

The aspiration to nurture and inspire a sense of purpose in youth was the focal point of the latest research webinar jointly organised by the Academy of Singapore Teachers (AST) and the Office of Education Research (OER) on 24 March 2022. The fourth in the AST-OER research webinar series, the session provided participants with research-based insights on Character and Citizenship Education.

Speaking at the webinar were:

  • Associate Professor Mary Anne Heng from NIE's Policy, Curriculum and Leadership (PCL) Academic Group, who delivered the keynote on “Nurturing and Inspiring a Sense of Purpose and Meaning in our Youth”;
  • Dr Johannis Auri Bin Abdul Aziz, OER Research Fellow, who presented on “Purpose and Meaning for Singaporean Society: The Impact of the Future of Work on Individual Purpose and the Role of Education”; and
  • Ms Jean Tan, Lead Specialist (Character and Citizenship Education), Student Development Curriculum Division 1, MOE, who discussed about “Purpose Development in the Character and Citizenship Education 2021 Curriculum”.

The webinar concluded with a Q&A segment moderated by Associate Professor Suzanne Choo, Assistant Dean of BA/BSc (Ed) at the Office of Teacher Education and Associate Professor at NIE's English Language and Literature (ELL) Academic Group. The event was attended by some 250 participants.
