Student teachers are given a taste of real-world work environment and gain fresh experiences under TSP’s BUILD programme.
Short for Building University Interns for Leadership Development, BUILD is the internship scheme of the NTU-NIE Teaching Scholars Programme (TSP). During the May to July holiday period, TSP student teachers can apply to intern at BUILD organisations, which include private enterprises, voluntary welfare organisations, non-profit organisations and MOE HQ, to experience work life outside the classroom. Student teachers who had gone through BUILD felt that they had benefitted from the opportunity to work in a different environment and culture. | Read More |
Ms Sandy Goh
TSP Student Teacher, AY2015/16 intake
Intern at Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM)
“During my internship at the Singapore Kindness Movement, I was exposed to the breadth of SKM activities. The experience was a real eye-opener. Even though SKM was established for a while now, they continue to reinvent themselves and push the boundaries to advocate and foster kindness in Singapore. I was constantly challenged to bring more creativity to my work for the Kindsville Times and A-OK! magazines as well as my planning for various programmes, including the Kindness Badge Award Junior and the Cyber-Wellness Carnival at Evergreen Secondary School. The work was challenging but the experience would go a long way for me as a future educator.”

Mr Don Seah
TSP Student Teacher, AY2015/16 intake
Intern at Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM)
“My BUILD experience was very challenging! It was not just the long hours I had to put in or the diversity of tasks I had to manage, but the steep learning curve to master everything quickly during the period of the internship. My other TSP mates and I had to learn to adapt and think on our feet. In our first week at Camp Challenge, we were all deployed to different camps and programmes. The staff treated us as equals. They had a certain level of trust and expectation in us, which motivated all of us to rise to the challenge. We ran programmes back-to-back and managed to keep up with the pace in a high stressed environment with very little sleep. We supported one another and got through one challenge after another. None of us had expected BUILD to be this tough or that we could be this tough!”
