When TV Comes Alive!

It was all about glitz and glamour for more than 700 NIE staff who attended this year’s Annual Staff Lunch held on 3 February 2018. Everyone was sportingly attired according to this year’s theme, which was “TV Comes To Life”. As such, there were no lack of super heroes and other iconic characters from television series like Little Riding Hood, Star Wars, Scrubs, Men In Black, and even the all-time favourite Korean variety programme, Running Man. Also spotted were colleagues who made colourful entrances dressed in traditional hanboks and sarong kebayas.

The lunch kicked off with an opening number by the 2017/2018 NIE Staff Welfare Committee, who came dressed as Minions from the movie, Despicable Me. The Minions gave all guests welcoming high-fives as they entered the ballroom, before ushering Professor Tan Oon Seng, NIE Director up on stage to give his welcome speech. It was obvious that the committee had spent many hours making sure the afternoon was enjoyable and memorable for everyone, including former directors and recently retired staff who were invited to the event.

The showstopper was definitely the “Best Dressed” segment, during which everyone got to see how sporting NIE staffers truly were. The contestants drew roaring laughter when they had to showcase their acting chops by re-enacting movie scenes as described by the emcee.

Other highlights of the afternoon included the sumptuous eight-course lunch and lucky draw. This year, a total of 200 lucky draw prizes were given away. These ranged from shopping and dining vouchers, to cash and food hampers, with the top prize being a return air-ticket to South Korea.
