Dr Sun He, a Research Scientist from the Centre for Research in Child Development (CRCD) and NIE’s Office of Education Research (OER), was invited to speak at a professional learning webinar organised by the Multimodality Special Interest Group (MM SIG) on 27 September 2021. “Enhanced eBooks and Early Mother Tongue Language Learning: Implications from an Eye-tracking Study” was the title of Dr Sun’s sharing, which is based on data from her recent study.
Dr Sun presented empirical findings on how specific modes, such as motion and sound, can have different effects on the way children learn and engage with eBooks. The interaction between the speaker and participants also led to ideas on the future design of eBooks in early mother tongue language learning.
The webinar drew 51 participants from NIE, Ministry of Education and overseas institutions.
