Arts + U is a new initiative by NIE and NTU’s School of Arts, Design and Media (ADM) to foster interest in using recyclable materials among secondary schools who do not have an Art Elective Programme. On 11 May 2021, 20 volunteers from the NIE Student Teachers’ Club (NSTC) and the ADM Student Club conducted a virtual art and craft workshop for 32 students from Swiss Cottage Secondary School. The participants had to come up with the ideas and designs for the use of the recycled materials provided to them, while the volunteers facilitated the crafting process by sharing technical skills and encouraging creative thinking.
For their efforts in this pilot initiative, the NSTC has garnered an NTU CoLab4Good Award (Special Mention), which recognises student initiatives that contribute significantly to the community or the environment.
The NSTC was also among the top five contenders for the Mr and Mrs Kwok Chin Yan Award for Student Initiative, which acknowledges virtual collaborations with overseas universities that enhance student life, improve campus environments and benefit larger communities.
As the main constituent club of NIE, the NSTC is the conduit for collaboration between NIE’s 11 subsidiary clubs and other external bodies. It organises year-round activities to foster community spirit and vibrancy on campus, as well as a sense of belonging for NIE students. To learn more about the NSTC, click here.
Congratulations to the 30th NSTC Management Committee for being awarded these accolades in a challenging 2021!
