As part of the monthly Science of Learning seminar series, the Science of Learning in Education Centre (SoLEC) invited Assistant Professor Farhan Ali from the Learning Sciences and Assessment (LSA) Academic Group to speak on the topic of “Neuroscience of Learning and Emotions: A Dynamic, Personalised View”.

During his talk, Assistant Professor Farhan outlined the enormous progress in cognitive neuroscience, aided by advances in brain imaging. He also addressed the shortcomings of studies that present a static and averaged picture of brain function, arguing the relevance of a more dynamic and personalised view of brain activity supported by advances in theories and analytical methods. He then shared preliminary research related to the neuroscience of learning and emotions, and suggested how a modern view of neuroscience could have potential implications on education.

SoLEC Research Scientist Dr Aishah Abdul Rahman moderated the lively question and answer segment at the end of the session, which saw approximately 70 participants.
