6 September

Ms Natalie Howson, Director-General of the Education Directorate, Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

During her visit to NIE on 6 September, Ms Natalie Howson met with Professor Low Ee Ling, Chief Planning Officer, Director’s Office, Associate Professor Ivy Tan, Associate Dean, Practicum & Partnerships, Office of Teacher Education, and Associate Professor Ng Pak Tee, Associate Dean, Leadership Learning, Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning. They had an engaging discussion on initial teacher preparation and leadership development of educators.

 

14 September

Delegation from Thu Dau Mot University, Vietnam

Led by Professor Nguyen Van Hiep, President of Thu Dau Mot University, the 4-member delegation visited NIE to learn about models of excellence in teaching, as part of preparations to build and improve teacher capacities in Vietnam. They were hosted by Professor Low Ee Ling, Chief Planning Officer, Director’s Office with Dr Jessie Png, Assistant Dean, Practicum, Office of Teacher Education, and Dr Hairon Salleh, Assistant Dean, Doctor in Education, Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning. The NIE representatives shared about NIE’s programmes in initial teacher preparation and professional development for in-service teachers.

 

18 September

Delegation from the Faculty of Education, University of Waikato, New Zealand

A 4-member delegation from the Faculty of Education, University of Waikato, visited NIE to renew and strengthen connections. Led by Professor Tina Besley, Associate Dean, International (Education), the delegation was warmly received by Associate Professor Liu Woon Chia, Dean, Office of Teacher Education and colleagues from the Office of Teacher Education. The visit also witnessed the signing of a new agreement on student exchange.

 

6 October

Ms Helene Hellmark Knutsson, Minister for Higher Education and Research, and delegation from Swedish universities and Ministry of Education and Research, Sweden

Ms Helene Hellmark Knutsson, Swedish Minister for Higher Education and Research led a delegation of high-level university representatives and ministry officials to Singapore in October 2017. They were met by NIE Director, Professor Tan Oon Seng, together with Deans and representatives from the Office of Teacher Education and Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning. As part of the delegation’s visit to NIE and NTU, Professor Tan shared on how NIE contributes to the success of Singapore’s education system through its work in teacher education.

 

11 October

Dr Nath Bunroeun, Secretary of State, and delegation from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Cambodia

Dr Nath Bunroeun led a delegation from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Cambodia on a study trip to NIE on 11 October 2017. The group was hosted by Professor Christine Goh, Dean, Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning together with Associate Professor Ng Pak Tee, Associate Dean, Leadership Learning, Office of Graduate Studies and Professional Learning and Dr David Huang, Assistant Dean, Research Strategy, Office of Education Research. The delegation was introduced to the education research carried out in NIE, as well as NIE’s higher degree programmes and the Executive Programme for System-level Education Leaders (ExSEL).

 

26 October

Mr Daniel Tasker, Senior Advisor, Ministry of Education, New Zealand

Mr Daniel Tasker visited NIE on 26 October and met with Associate Professor Liu Woon Chia, Dean, Office of Teacher Education to establish connections and learn more about NIE.

 

1 November

Mr Olli-Pekka Heinonen, Director General, Finnish National Agency for Education, Finland

On his visit to NIE on 1 November, Mr Olli-Pekka Heinonen met with Associate Professor Liu Woon Chia, Dean, Office of Teacher Education and held a discussion about the importance of teacher education in supporting Singapore’s education system.

 

7 November

His Excellency Dr Jonathan Austin, High Commissioner, New Zealand

His Excellency Dr Jonathan Austin, New Zealand’s High Commissioner to Singapore, visited NIE and met with NIE Director, Professor Tan Oon Seng, to hear about more NIE’s work and to explore collaboration opportunities.
